Mokokchung, October 19: Irked over deplorable condition of Mokokchung-Mariani road (NH 702D) and dissatisfied with the work of the department concerned, the Mokokchung District Truck Owners Association (MDTOA) has resolved to impose indefinite “chakka bandh” in all the National Highways connecting Mokokchung from November 1.
This was informed by MDTOA officials during a press conference at their treasurer’s residence here on Wednesday. MDTOA president Sentilemba said the total indefinite chakka bandh called by the association will impact only vehicular movement in National Highways connecting Mokokchung.
The decision to this effect was taken during the MDTOA general meeting on October 17 and was endorsed by sister associations - taxi, bus and pickup - of Mokokchung.MDTOA officials stated that the association had submitted a representation to Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner for improvement of deteriorating condition of the road within 30 days or else the MDTOA would be compelled to initiate “chakka bandh” on August 18, which was published in local dailies.
In this regard, the DC had convened two meetings in the months of September and October during which the department concerned appraised him about the progress of work, they said.
Not satisfied with the work, the MDTOA decided to impose the bandh, they said. They added that even though the department filled the potholes and craters, no machinery was used to level the surface, which is adversely damaging the vehicles.
They informed the vehicles of the press, medical department, defence and magistrate on duty will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
