MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) conducted a mass social work at Imkongmeren Sports Complex and surrounding areas in Mokokchung on Saturday.
The social work began at 6:30 am with participation from the 12 affiliated sports associations under MDSC.
Around 100 members, with 10 representatives from each affiliated sports association, took part in the cleanliness drive. Various areas around Imkongmeren Sports Complex and Multi-Sports Complex were cleaned, including clearing overgrown vegetation. Waste materials were segregated, with plastic bottles, glass bottles, and other waste collected separately in disposable bags.
In collaboration with the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), two waste collection trucks were provided to collect and dispose of the waste.
Following the social work, the MDSC held a brief meeting where members discussed ways to strengthen the council’s efforts in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the public ground and Multi-Sports Complex area.

During the meeting, members expressed concern over increasing littering in and around the ground, including the disposal of alcohol bottles and plastic waste. They stated that the Imkongmeren Sports Complex is the only public ground available in Mokokchung for sports activities and that the area should be preserved mainly for sports purposes apart from other state programmes.
The council also recalled the standing order issued by the administration last year regarding the opening and closing timings of the ground gates. It stated that the timings should be followed and that activities other than sports should not be conducted inside the ground's premises beyond the permitted timings.
The MDSC resolved to continue efforts to maintain the cleanliness and sanctity of the ground and appealed to the public to practise civic responsibility by keeping the area clean.
The council stated that the social work was only the beginning of its initiative and that further efforts would be made towards improving and beautifying the surrounding areas of the public ground.
