Mokokchung, Oct. 14 (EMN): Mokokchung District Martial Art Association’s (MDMAA) free coaching camp and selection for Olympic Camp 2019 got underway at Multi Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.
The inaugural programme was attended by special guest Imkong Jamir, vice president of Ao Senden.
Jamir said that martial art is not only for self-defence and self-discipline but also for the welfare of the people. Lamenting that people have become more addicted to sports that involve gambling, he encouraged the martial art practitioners and students to hone their skills and used it for the betterment of humanity.
“Whatever you learned should be for the betterment of the humanity,” he said.
MDMA’s coaching camp cum selection for Olympic Camp 2019 will culminate on October 19. Eight martial art disciplines -- boxing, wushu, karate, taekwondo, inside kungfu, muay thia, kick-boxing and new kungfu -- will be imparted to students aged three years old and above during coaching cum selection programme.
MDMA announced that a mixed martial art tournament will soon be held within this year itself. The students and MDMAA instructors also demonstrated various skills during the programme.
