Mokokchung, Oct. 13 (EMN): Defending champions Zonipang SA easily overcame Kumlong SA 4-0 in the first match of the on-going MDFA Trophy, at the Imkongmeren Sports complex in Mokokchung on Sat. Oct. 13.
Suponglemba and Ketho Zhapo scored two goals each for Zonipang to claim their second victory. Players from Zonipang were rarely troubled by Kumlong side that defended in numbers but showed little threat in their opponent's half. Striker Suponglemba put Zonipang ahead after 22 minutes with a superb shot.
Ketho Zhapo doubled their lead 15minutes into the second half when he took a pass on the edge of the box and swept a right-foot shot home after the Kumlong defence opened up in front of him. Suponglemba grabbed his second goal in the 54th minute and Ketho Zhapo sealed the match 4-0 in the 68th minute with a superb header. Imkongyapang of Kumlong was awarded a yellow card in the 70th minute.
In the second match, Y/A Marepkong recovered its first loss against Zonipang on Oct. 10 last by beating OCYU 2-1. Moasosang playing in defence position gave Marepkong the first lead in the 27th minute of the game while forward players Keyiculeung added the second goal in the 42nd minute of the second half.
The consolation goal for OCYU came in the form of a penalty when one of his main players was tackled down in the 58th minute of the game. The shot was taken by the forward player Imnasashi. The match also recorded four yellow cards.
Alempang Y/A was again hammered 3-0 by F/C Young Boys in the last match. Pressure started mounting on Alempang head when the referee declared a penalty shot on the spot in the 27th minute after the ball unluckily hit the hand of an Alempang player while desperately trying to clear the ball in the penalty area.
The shot was taken by F/C Young Boys right-out Pangjungmere who without hesitation kicked the ball into the net. Two more goals were added in the 39th and 58th minute.
Alempang got some golden opportunity but could not convert into a goal until the last whistle.
