DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19: Defending champions, Fusion Sporting Club defeated Telongjem FC 2-0 in the fourth quarter-final match of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2016 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex here today. The match was witnessed by DRDA Project Director, Taliyanger as the match patron.
In the first half, the strong defence and some superb goalkeeping by Telongjem FC’s goalie kept the Fusion attacks at bay. Telongjem FC midfield also made some serious attempts at the Fusion FC goal but it could not materialise. Telongjem FC missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock when Ngul Goulal kicked the ball directly at the keeper when his teammate crossed over the Fusion defence. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
The second half was, however, one sided, Fusion SC took control of the game and dominated the game. Fusion’s striker made some serious on-target attempts. Their attempts were rewarded in the 70th minute when Nyithang received a high ball from his teammate; with one touch, he slotted the ball into the net.
Fusion FC was rejuvenated and after eleven minutes, in the 81st minute, another cross from a Fusion defender found Nyithang who promptly converted it.
However, there was a slight ruckus among the crowd after the goal and the match was stalled for more than twenty minutes. With the intervention of MDFA officials and the police, the situation was brought under control and the match resumed. But the result of the match was already decided in favour of the defending champions. Fusion SC won the match 2-0 and they have set a date with Shitilong SA (last year’s runner-up) in the semis.
