YA Marepkong overcome Rongpang Reju in the inaugural match

Mokokchung, Oct. 3 (EMN): Arenjenba capped a dominant performance for Youth Association Marepkong with a brilliant goal in a 1-0 victory against Rongpang Reju in the inaugural match of MDFA Trophy 2017 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Tuesday.
The Marepkong midfielder’s assist with a chip passed to its striker however the shot got deflected at the right post and directly landed on the foot of its right winger Arenjenba who finished off with the lone goal of the match just inside the goal area in the 8th minute. The triumph today earned the confident Marepkong its first lead in the tournament.
Game-wise, Rongpang Reju played better football than its opponent Marepkong but Marepkong’s defense line remained intact until the final whistle. With the introduction of Achi jersey number 17 in the mid first half somehow boosted confident among the Rongpang Reju players and reorganised its formation and make some vigorous counter attacks but luck was not in favor of them.
Rongpang Reju also got a golden opportunity for an equaliser when a free kick was given just outside the D-Box area, however, Marepkong’s defender once again went airborne to clear away the dangerous blasting strike.
Earlier, the chief guest of the opening ceremony, Merentoshi R Jamir, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare in his address expressed that Mokokchung District Football Association has shown its volume of determination to promote football in the district since its inception 1992.
He also said that Naga are not only talented in football but also in many spheres but lamented that we utilised less than 10 percent of our talents. Jamir also lamented about the poor infrastructural development for sports in the state even though they are raising sports personalities from our state.
In this connection, he called upon all the sporting Association in the state to come together and look for funding channels for the development of sports infrastructure in the state and making into an industry sector for employments.
Jamir also informed that a proposal for establishing a football ground and indoor hall in Mokokchung District was sent to the government and appealed the government to include the proposal in the planning.
Recalling the past black tint of the tourney, he also appealed the spectators to support their team in a constructive spirit and not in a destructive way.
