Mokokchung, October 14: Defending champions Telongjem FC booked their berth in the quarterfinals via a tie-breaker at the ongoing MDFA Trophy, after Limatoshi deflected a shot during the penalty shootout to win the match 4-3.
In the first half, both teams created scoring chances but failed to capitalize. It was one of the most exciting first half matches of the tournament.
The second half saw Fusion FC counter-attack but couldn’t breach the Arikodong Club defence. The last twenty minutes witnessed some vigorous attacks by Fusion FC; there were serious breaches in the Arikodong defence. However, the Arikodong goal-keeper came to the rescue and saved some crucial shots from the Fusion FC. The match ended in a goalless draw.During the last match of the pre-quarters, Telongjem FC thrashed Grasshoppers 3-0 to book their place in the quarters.
The match was totally dominated by Telongjem FC and was more or less a one-sided match. Ghunaka of Telongjem FC scored the first goal in the 30th minute. Barely ten minutes later, Ghunaka again breached the weak defence of the Grasshoppers and scored another goal in the 39th minute.
In the second half, there were no serious attempts at the goal by the Grasshoppers. However, Kitho Kiho scored the third goal for Telongjem FC to put the game to bed.
The first quarter final will start from Saturday with the Superintendent of Excise, Mokokchung, Moarenba as the match patron.
The match will be played between OCYU Vs Sports Society Suyim (SSS) at 1:30 pm.
