
Mokokchung — Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) has announced that this year’s MDFA trophy will be an open trophy and invited clubs from Nagaland to compete for the coveted title, which is scheduled to start from September 19.
This was informed during a press conference by the convener of the organising committee O Wati Jamir on July 30.
Jamir also informed that MDFA has lifted restrictions on outside the district players’ quota and now clubs can hire players from anywhere to play for their clubs.
The MDFA officials also informed that they cannot raise the prize money for the tourney because MDFA is obliged to follow certain norms laid down by Nagaland Football Association (NFA).
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]However, they informed that a new tradition of MDFA will be introduced in the coming tournament where winners will be awarded medals along with citations.
The tourney carries a cash prize of INR 2 lakh for the champions, the runner-ups will receive INR 1 lakh, the two semi finalists will be given INR 25000 each, and the quarter finalists will receive match allowances, plus individuals’ prizes.
The officials also informed that clubs coming from outside the district will be given free lodging facilities.
MDFA further informed that the match commissioner will be called from NFA along with local referees to officiate the tournament. MDFA has also set-up a selection board for scouting of indigenous players to represent the district in the upcoming Dr. T Ao tournament.
Registration will start from August 10 and the last date of submission of forms will be August 31. Registration forms will be available both online and offline (3 Kit, Alongmen Ward).
The opening ceremony will be an entertainment event and the matches will start from September 20 onwards.
