Mokokchung, Feb. 21 (EMN): Titans Cricket Club emerged as the champion of 30th T20 Interclub Tournament after defeating United Brothers CC in the finals at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.
The final match displayed a low paced match as the bad weather conditions gloomed the day.
Electing to bat first, United Brothers struggled to keep the match in control losing seven wickets and scoring just 37 runs. However, with the help of contributions from Sentiwapang and Tiawati who scored 32 runs and 19 runs each, United Brothers posted a total score of 85/10 in 19.3 overs.
Basant and Toshimeren collected an impressive four and two wickets each for the Titans in the first inning.
Chasing a score of 86, Titans’ Neehal comfortably hit the half century mark with 56 runs adding to the team total score of 87 runs. While Sentiwapang and Temjenmeren took one wicket each for United Brothers but to no avail as Titans ended the match in 14.4 overs with seven wickets to spare.
Basant of Titans Cricket Club was declared the man of the match and also won the man of the tournament. Imnatoshi of United Brothers CC was the highest run scorer, while Sentiwapang, also from United Brothers CC, was the highest wicket taker.
Amongti won the most promising player, while the spirit of the game awards was given to Zungamedem CC.
Winning the tournament, Titans Cricket Club pocketed a cash prize of INR 30,000 along with certificates and cup, while the runner-up received a cash prize of INR 15,000 along with certificates.
Earlier, Chubatoshi, former president MDCA, who was the chief patron, requested the citizens to promote humanity through the sport in Mokokchung, Nagaland and India as a whole. He asserted, "I would like to call upon cricket lovers and players to develop humanity and discipline.”
The tournament was organised by Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA).
