Titans CC thrash United Brothers by 8 wickets

Mokokchung, Jan. 4 (EMN): Four defending champions Titans CC crushed new entrants United Brothers by eight wickets in the first day of the Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) inter-club T20 cricket tournament held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on January 4.
Electing to bat, United Brothers CC managed to put up a formidable 138 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Nriben Rai topped the score with 83 runs and Merenchet contributing 44 runs. For Titans CC, Aloto was the pick of the bowlers finishing with a figure of 4/12 in 4 overs, while Odiyanger took 2/12 in 3 overs.
In the run chase, Titans were given an early set back when Sentiwapang send back the opener batsman in the second ball itself. But the captain Neheel Rai (18 runs) along with his deputy captain, who also topped scored for Titans CC with an unbeaten 75 runs, took the counter-attack on the opponent and laid the foundation. With the captain’s departure, experienced senior batsman Toshimeren along with Longsasunep took the team for the first win of their 2019 campaign with a mighty six from the bat of Longsa.
Toshimeren contributed 34 runs and remain unbeaten. Titans reached the target in 16.5 overs reaching 144/2 and winning the match by 8 wickets. The win also ensured Titans qualification for the quarterfinals while United Brothers will also qualify to the quarter final as runners-up from the pool as there were only two teams in that pool.
Earlier in the day before the commenced of the match, a minute of silence was observed in memory of MDCA general secretary Imnatoshi, who passed away last year.
In this year tournament, eleven teams are participating in the event with almost every team bringing in players in their allotted 3 spots from outside the district as well as from nearby States.
