Nagaland CEO forms MCMC, designates police officials, and sets up a control room for Koridang bye-election.

DIMAPUR — In view of the forthcoming by-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency under the Mokokchung district, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, has constituted a State Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), designated police personnel as election officials, and set up a control room in the district.
The MCMC has been formed in accordance with guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India to ensure proper monitoring and regulation of election-related media content.
According to a DIPR report, Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat will chair the committee.
The panel also includes an observer appointed by the Election Commission of India, along with representatives including Director of DIPR Dzüvinuo Theünuo, Media and Communication Officer of PIB Andrew Lalchhandama, and Director of Information Technology and Communication Sabou Yashu. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Alila Chang will serve as the member secretary.

The committee will primarily handle appeals related to decisions taken by district-level media certification bodies concerning political advertisements. It will also examine cases of paid news, including those taken up suo motu, and direct returning officers to issue notices to candidates wherever necessary.
The move is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to electoral guidelines in media practices during the by-election process.
Furthermore, a notification was issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, stating that all officers of the Nagaland Police, from the Director General level to officers in the field, including Home Guards and Village Guards, will function as election officials for the duration of the election process.
The designation has been made under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The arrangement will remain in effect from the date of notification until the completion of the by-election.
During this period, all police personnel involved in election-related duties will be deemed to be on deputation to the Election Commission and will function under its control, supervision, and discipline. They will also be held accountable to the Commission for any actions or lapses in the course of performing their election responsibilities.
