Dimapur, August 23 (EMN): Observing fraudulent sales of counterfeit electronics and home appliances, Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has cautioned the public to remain vigilant and ensure that they buy such items from genuine registered sellers only.
MCCI today issued this advisory on having learned that some individuals with dubious identity were carrying out door-to-door sales of such products in Mokokchung district.
MCCI president, Tsukti Longkumer, and the general secretary, Limalenden Longkumer, stated that some unassuming customers were being hoodwinked into purchasing fake branded LED television sets, solar lamps and domestic LPG gas stoves.
It stated that two such rural customers, who purchased fake branded Samsung LED television sets, appeared before the MCCI along with the sellers from whom they purchased the counterfeit products seeking MCCI intervention to settle their business deal. It was reported that the sellers admitted to the accusations levelled against them by the two customers.
Upon close observation in the presence of representatives from the electronic dealers’ community, it was found that the ‘branded’ television sets were indeed fake. The matter was amicably settled between them with the customers returning the products and the sellers refunding them.
The modus operandi of the fraudsters was that they go about door to door impersonating as military personnel going home on leave selling military CSD canteen products at half the price. The impostor sellers engaged in aggressive sales demeanor literally forcing the unassuming customers to buy their products.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, MCCI urged the customers and the public to be cautious against such fraudulent sellers of fake branded products. MCCI further cautioned the customers to be vigilant on what products they are purchasing by ensuring that they are buying from genuine registered sellers only.
