THE Tenyimi Union, Dimapur (TUD) and the Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO) have vehemently condemned the physical assault on the president of Western Chakhesang Hoho,and ill treatment meted out to the president and vice president of Tenyimi Union, Dimapur (TUD) and the damage caused to their vehicles by the Aoyimkum villagers, comprising both men and women and their youth, on Saturday.
Resolving to condemn the incident at an emergency meeting today, the TUD, in a release, said the ugly incident occurred, without any provocation whatsoever, when the said leaders were proceeding towards Dikoi village on learning about the killing of a fellow Chakhesang of Dikoi village earlier on Saturday.
The TUD said just before entering Aoyimkum village, the leaders met SDO(C), Dimapur, who was apparently on duty in the area along with some IRB personnel. They were told that that the road to Dikoi village was clear. Following this, the leaders proceeded towards their destination when suddenly they found the road blocked with trees trunks and boulders and many people armed with ‘lathis’ and other lethal weapons standing there, the release stated.
The TUD members found themselves surrounded by the mob and despite the disclosure of their identities and purpose visit the mob was in no mood to listen. They physically assaulted the president of Western Chakhesang Hoho and damaged their vehicles by pelting stones and using ‘lathis’, the TUD said.
The Western Chakhesang Hoho president sustained cut injuries on his head and blunt injuries on his legs and back of his body as a result of the attack and is undergoing treatment as an indoor patient at District Hospital, Dimapur. The release further said when TUD the president tried to intervene and pacify the mob, he was not only pushed and manhandled but was also verbally abused by the mob.
It said the entire incident took place near the IRB personnel stationed there but they did not bother to intervene and prevent the mob from attacking the TUD team.
The TUD said till the time of today’s emergency meeting, it was learnt, the Aoyimkum villagers were putting up the road blockade. Stating that since the patience of the public on the other side were running out, it said, a representation was submitted to the Dimapur district administration today to immediately remove the blockade so as to prevent further deterioration of law and order problem.
The house also unanimously voiced that such barbaric action of the Aoyimkum villagers is highly objectionable and is ought to be condemned by one and all.
The Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO) expressed pain over the adverse situation at Dikoi village and the unfortunate confrontation by the Naga brothers from Aoimkong villagers who took law into their own hand thereby failing to respect the sympathy of other Nagas by challenging the integrity of other Naga community.
The incident which could have been controlled peacefully has been blown out of proportion due to the road blockade by the Aoimkong villagers when the community people and relatives were on their way to collect the body of the deceased who was shot dead at Dikoi village, the CAKUO said. The statement form CAKYO also rued the manner in which the attack on the president of the Western Chakesang Hoho took place and also damaging the his vehicle as well as those of Tenyimi Union, Dimapur president and others accompanying them, it rued.
While strongly condemning the action of Aoimkong villagers on other Naga brothers and killing of one person by unidentified persons and injury to many, the CAKYO requested the district administration as well as the State law enforcing agency not to delay the investigation process and bring out the true picture of who is responsible for the shootout and killing.
Seeking to know why the Aoimkong villagers resorted to such action against own Naga brothers, the CAKYO demanded that all the culprits involved be punished as per the law.
Further, the CAKYO conveyed its condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
