Mass social work conducted in Kohima ahead of Hornbill Festival

DIMAPUR — A mass social work drive was carried out across Kohima on November 28, aimed at ensuring cleanliness, enhancing hygiene, and beautifying public spaces ahead of the festive season and the upcoming Hornbill Festival 2025.

Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima B Henok Buchem, and Senior Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso inspected various locations during the social work, according to a DIPR report.

The team assessed roadside conditions, including construction materials, off-road vehicles, and other structures encroaching upon public spaces.

They also examined loosely hanging overhead cables and pipes that affect the city’s appearance and obstruct the movement of heavy vehicles.

The mass social work saw participation from government employees, the Kohima Municipal Council, NGOs, and residents across all wards. As part of the exercise, all shops and business establishments remained closed until 12 noon to facilitate uninterrupted cleaning activities.

While government departments took charge of cleaning designated areas, roads not covered by them were attended to by the respective ward authorities. Waste collected during the social work was transported and disposed of at the Meriema landfill dumping site.
