Speaking to this correspondent, MU vice president Pungdi said the courtesy visit to Governor Bhalla at his official residence was made in connection with a memorandum submitted to President Droupadi Murmu, during her historic visit to Senapati district, where she interacted with the Maram Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) on December 12.
He said the MU expressed gratitude to the governor for the increased attention being given to the Maram PVTG by the government of India since he assumed office.
“The governor gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured us that he would look into issues related to the welfare of the Maram PVTG,” Pungdi said.
He added that BJP national general secretary B L Santosh and the party’s North East in-charge, Dr Sambit Patra, had also earlier interacted with the Maram PVTG.
It may be mentioned that the Maram tribe of Manipur has been identified as a PVTG and included under the PM-JANMAN initiative for its all-round development.
