Dimapur, September 30: Unified-District Information System for Education (U-DISE) is a critical development that provides informed progress of schools however, schools in Nagaland have not been serious about furnishing information in time and even the furnished information is never accurate.
This was informed by Kesonyu Yhome, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur on Friday while observing the first U-DISE Day at IMC Hall Dimapur.
Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) is a database of information about school in India. It is to carry out proper planning for implementation of various programmes by the central and state government and to achieve target for universalization of elementary and secondary education.
“The responsibilities of U-DISE have been relegated to School Management Committee’s (SMC) but there have been undue manipulation in the figures and statistics of the schools” remarked Yhome. Emphasising on U-DISE, he said, furnishing information of institutions is not a difficult task. “Compiling from a state level or district level is difficult but from school level is not a herculean task. But many schools fail to furnish the information even from their respective schools and even the furnished information is not accurate.”
Though the state government is late in observing U-DISE Day, Yhome expressed that institutions in Nagaland will understand and realise the importance of U-DISE.
Acknowledging the performance of some schools with co-operation towards U-DISE, the DC said, “We are not dealing only with data and statistics but with lives of society and young children. It is definitely not a responsibility that we can evade.”
He appealed to all heads of institutions and every functionary attached to U-DISE to remember that they are not just providing statistics but dealing with the rights of young children.
Talitemsu Jamir, Deputy Mission Director SSA elucidating on the importance of U-DISE said though the department desired to conduct several activities for teachers, it could not be done due to fund constraint. With inconsistency identified on information provided by schools for U-DISE, Jamir asked private schools to provide accurate data so that proper planning for implementation of various programmes by the central and state governments can be carried out.
Itwadu Thou, Project Assistant sensitising educators on U-DISE informed that as per 2015-16 U-DISE source, there are 290 government schools, 199 private schools, eight central schools and one social welfare schools in Dimapur district with 153973 students enrolled.
However, compared to the 2013-2014 enrolment, there was 9,891 enrolment decline in 2014-15 due to filtration made between U-DISE enrolment and student profile (Aadhar), said Thou.
On the day, ten government schools were awarded for overall performance of three years and ten private schools were awarded for timely collection and submission of U-DISE.
