Dimapur, September 8 : The government is requested to take prompt action to address matter concerning the absence of principals in a number of government college institutions in the state. No appointment to said post was made by the state’s government, a students’ organization said on Thursday.
The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) issued a copy of a representation on September 8 that was addressed to the chief minister of Nagaland.
“...we are dismayed to learn (sic) about the non-availability (sic) of principals in many government colleges viz. (sic) Zunheboto government college, Pfutsero government college, Wangkhao college (in) Mon, Peren government college, Yingli College (in) Longleng, SCTE (in) Kohima, since no appointments had been done by the government,” the representation to the chief minister stated.
Further, the union noted, some of the colleges had no principals ‘for months already for reasons best known to the government.’
“However, regardless the rhymes and reasons for non-appointments we feel that the chair of the principal cannot be left empty beyond a reasonable period of time. Sir, as we all know that as much as a body cannot function without a head, an educational institution like a college cannot function effectively without a principal, as he/she being the administrative head and all matters relating to the day to day activities and functions of the college emanates (sic) from his/her office.”
The ANCSU said that it had 'felt' the problems faced by the “deprived colleges,” and that the chief minister’s office must now take stock of the situation and “initiate action by way of appointing principals at the earliest.”
The union has emphasized that the case must have to be addressed on priority.
