Diphu, Jan. 11 (EMN): An executive member for Higher Education of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Jagatsing Engti on Thur. Jan. 11 dedicated a foundation stone for construction of a new college building for Manja Junior College for degree classes at Manja. He was attending as the chief guest of the college’s annual social event.
During the function Engti assured the college’s authority to extend all possible assistance to bring development. “The college is still ventured by getting grant-in-aid from KAAC, but I will try to provide funds for the college for infrastructure development,” he said.
According to government norms high schools must be upgraded to higher secondary. By this, the present status of Manja Junior College, which is only a higher secondary will not be proper; it needs to be upgraded to the degree level, he said.
Degree classes will cater to the needs of local students to pursue degree classes from this academic session, Engti said. He asked the teachers of Manja Junior College to have NET or SLET qualifications for ‘future benefit.’
