Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): Urban Block Resource Centre (UBRC) of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has conducted spelling bee competition for the government school students in Dimapur urban areas at Kuda youth hall on June 15.
In the category-I (from Classes I-IV), Manish Kumar of Class IV from the Government Middle School, Kuda, bagged the champion, while Imtisani of Class VIII from Government Middle School, Midland, won in the category-II (Classes from V-VIII).
Addressing students, the Dimapur’s district education officer, R Amongla Jamir, urged the students to be the game changer and take studies more seriously. She iterated that students should feel fortunate with lots of facilities and quality teachers at their disposal.
Further encouraging the teachers, she remarked ‘we must try our best’ and must live an exemplary life as teachers.
Jamir also expressed concern at the poor performance of the government schools in Nagaland this year. She blamed few people, whose insincerity was the reason for demeaning the department’s image. She added that every student and teachers are capable and talented, yet one does not know how to utilise them. She, therefore, urged them to work hard and contribute to the society.
A Trainers of Teachers (ToT) of Kuda UBRC, Mezhuwheno Liegise, said the competition was the first of its kind in the district among the government schools. She added that the programme was organised with an idea to provide platform to students to discover their talents.
It was informed to the media that the spellings were compiled out of 500 selected words from the students’ textbook in all subjects. The compilation materials were then distributed to the 42 schools of URBC in the month of April. However, students from 40 schools were able to turn up during the competition.
The programme was sponsored by the ToT, comprising of a coordinator and five trainers who supervise, monitor, and trained the schools of the UBRC. One of the trainers claimed that they managed the programme expenses with their freewill contribution.
