IMPHAL, February 4
Manipur won one more gold medal in weightlifting competition in the ongoing 35th National Games at VKN Menon Indoor Stadium,Thrissur in Kerala this morning.
O Geeta lifted a total of 211 kilograms -93 in snatch and 118 in clean and jerk in the 69 kg women weightlifting category to clinch the gold. The second and third position in the category went to Mizoram and Andhra Pradesh respectively.State’s weightlifters Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bagged a gold and silver respectively in women’s 48kg in weightlifting on day one of the Games.
Sanjita lifted 78 kg in snatch and 102 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 180 kg and Mirabai lifted 78 kg in snatch, 95 in clean and jerk for a total of 173 kg while B Usha of Andhra Pradesh grabbed the bronze with a cumulative effort of 161 kg.
Earlier the state’s rowers N Laxmi bagged a gold in 2000 metres individual (W1X) while the pair of Laxmi and Ch Priya won one more gold medal in the double (W2X) event, weightlifter N Sumarbala bagged a bronze medal in 58 kg women competition while her judoka colleagues S Luwangkhambi managed to get another bronze medal in the 50 kg freestyle(women) event today, reports from Kerala said.
