
Manipur's wushu team poses with their medals won at the 38th
National Games in Uttarakhand.
- IMPHAL — Manipur's
wushu players secured a total of 17 medals, including seven gold, eight silver
and two bronze, at the conclusion of the wushu competition at the ongoing 38th
National Games in Uttarakhand on Saturday.
- On the final day of competition, wushu earned Manipur two
more gold and two more silver medals. The gold medallists were Hemam Robinson
(Men's 52kg Sanda) and Yumlembam Echantombi Devi (Women's Qiangshu), while the
silver medallists were Thokchom Jodajit Singh (Men's 85kg Sanda) and Hamom
Sanayaima Singh (Men's 56kg Sanda).
- Earlier, state wushu players had secured 13 medals,
including five gold, six silver and two bronze, defeating their opponents in
the previous neck-and-neck competitions at Kakchenjunga Hall, MPSC, Dehradun.
- It may be noted that 39 wushu players from Manipur,
including 20 women, participated in the five-day competition at the ongoing
Games.
- Meanwhile, Manipur's men's football team suffered a setback
as they were defeated by Services 3-2 in the 38th National Games, played at the
District Sports Complex, Haldwani, Uttarakhand, on Saturday.
- This was Manipur's second defeat, having been beaten by
Kerala 1-0 in the opening match. Manipur now faces a slim chance of making it
to the semi-finals as they take on Delhi in the final league match from Group B
on Monday at 10 am.
- Out of the four teams in each of groups A and B, the top two
teams will qualify for the semi-finals. As for women's football, Manipur will
face Delhi in the final league match on Sunday at 2 pm at the Indira Gandhi
International Sports Complex, Haldwani.
- This is a must-win game for Manipur to secure a spot in the
semi-finals. Earlier, Manipur had defeated host Uttarakhand 3-0 but lost to
West Bengal 4-1.
- In lawn bowls, during the first-round competition held in
Dehradun, Chingakham Surbala Devi defeated her Delhi opponent in the women's
singles by a margin of 21-10. Similarly, the men's triples team, comprising
Pravech Kumar Salam, Mohd Aftaf Ahmad Khan, and Moirangthem Mangalleiba, beat
their Delhi rivals 16-14.
