IMPHAL, AUGUST 2: Manipuri version of eminent litterateur and social activist Mahasweta Devi’s novel- ‘Hajar Chourasir Ma’ would be honoured with Translation Prize 2015 - one of the major Akedemi Prizes in Imphal on Wednesday.
Prominent Manipuri writer N Khagendra Singh would receive the Translation Prize for his translated book “Lishingama Supna Mariphumarigi Mama.” The 90-year-old Magsaysay awardee and social activist Mahasweta Devi passed away on July 28 in Kolkata.
Other prize winners are Suren Talukder (Assamese), Mau Das Gupta (Bengali), Dhanshiri Swargiary (Bodo), Chhatrapal (JP Saraf) (Dogri), Susheela Punitha (English), Sharifa K. Vijliwala (Gujarati), Damodar Khadse (Hindi), Na Damodar Shetty (Kannada), Rattan Lal Shant (Kashmiri), Jaymala Narayan Danait (Konkani), Devendra Jha (Maithili), KC Ajaya Kumar (Malayalam), N Khagendra Singh (Manipuri), Balwant Vasant Jeurkar (Marathi), Shankar Pradhan (Nepali), Shakuntala Baliarsingh (Odia), Balbir Parwana (Punjabi), Madan Saini (Rajasthani), Tarashankar Sharma ‘Pandeya’ (Sanskrit), Tala Tadu (Santhali), Sarita D. Sharma (Sindhi), Gowri Kirubanandan (Tamil), LR Swamy (Telugu) and Suhail Ahmad Farooqi (Urdu). The award ceremony would be held with Raghuveer Chaudhari, eminent Gujarati writer and fellow of Sahitya Akademi at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium in Imphal.
The ceremony would kick off with invocation to be followed by the welcome address by K Sreenivasarao, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi. The President of Sahitya Akademi Vishwanath, Prasad Tiwari, would deliver the presidential address followed by the presentation to the Translation prize winners of the country.
Sahitya Akademi would conduct a reading programme - Abhivyakti on August 5-6 where eminent English writer Temsula Ao would present inaugural address while Manipuri writer H Behari Singh would make introductory remarks. President of Sahitya Akademi would preside over the inaugural session. Writers from different languages —Pankaj Gobinda Medhi (Assamese), Bijay Baglary (Bodo), Shiv Dev Sushil (Dogri), Hariram Dwivedi (Hindi), L Ibemhal (Manipuri), Indu Prava Devi (Nepali), Yum Vasugi (Tamil) and ASPS Ravi Prakash (Telugu) would read out their literary piece in the inaugural session. Sahitya Akademi’s Book exhibition-cum-sale would take place from August 4 to 6 from 10.00 am to 6pm.
