- IMPHAL — Manipur's
wrestlers hope to win medals at the upcoming 38th National Games, which will be
held in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14.
- Manipur's wrestling coach, Mutum Muhindro Singh, stated that
coaching sessions for the upcoming Uttarakhand National Games began on January
13 and will continue until February 6.
- It was mentioned that four state wrestlers, including two
men and two women, have qualified for the National Games this time, unlike in
previous games when five wrestlers (three women and two men) had qualified. One
woman wrestler, Bidyalaxmi, had secured a bronze medal in the last games.
- Regarding the medal prospects, state coach Muhindro stated
that they are expecting at least two medals in the upcoming National Games. The
wrestling event will be held from February 9 to 13 in Haridwar.
- The four state wrestlers who qualified for the 38th National
Games are Luwang Chanu Linthoi (53 kg), Jenista Ningombam (62 kg), M Taibanganba
(67 kg), and N Jameson (77 kg).
- Both Luwang Chanu Linthoi of Thangmeiband in Imphal West and
Jenista Ningombam of Ningomthongjao in Imphal East will compete in the
freestyle category, while Taibanganba and Jameson will compete in the
Greco-Roman category.
- Currently, Taibanganba, a resident of Thaoroijam in Imphal
West district, is undergoing training in Pune, while Jameson, a resident of
Moirangkampu Sajeb in Imphal East district, along with other wrestlers, is
attending coaching at the Khuman Lampak indoor stadium.
- Two officials, M Muhindro and L Brojen, have been named as
team coach and team manager, respectively, to accompany the state wrestlers at
the national event.
- It may be mentioned that the state wrestlers qualified after
attending the Senior National Wrestling Championship 2024, held from December 6
to 8 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, last year.
