Imphal, May 9 (EMN): Five days after busting a ‘secret workshop’ run by vehicle lifters, the Anti-Theft Cell of Manipur Police department rounded up one vehicle lifter along with three two-wheeler and one car on Monday.
According to police sources, the Anti-Theft Cell and team of Imphal West district police commandos led by officer-in-charge P Achouba under the overall supervision of SP Ksh Shivkanta arrested Md Ziaur Rahman (19) of Lilong Police Mamang in Thoubal district.
From his possession and from the house of his associates -- Md Ashif alias Mamei of Lilong Dam Makha and Md. Azmir of Lilong Ubak Thong Mathak --, three two-wheelers - KTM 250 Duke, KTM Motorex without registration number, one red Honda Dio without registration number and one white Hyundai Creta without registration number were recovered.
The accused person has been arrested and the vehicles seized for further necessary action, people familiar with the development said. Further follow up action will be taken up to arrest his accomplices.
In continuation of the ongoing drive against the rampant vehicle theft cases, Bishnupur district police also apprehended one person namely Sawmlian Vaiphei (31) of Torbung Bazaar, for his involvement in making forged documents of stolen vehicles, vehicle theft and re-registration of such vehicles. From his possession, a TATA Xenon, one Renault Duster, one Gypsy and one Activa was also seized.
