Imphal, Dec. 20 (EMN): Nongmaithem Sushanti, a resident of Imphal, won this year’s Orange Queen title during the pageant held at Tamenglong Apollo ground in Tamenglong on Monday.
The Orange Queen 2022 beauty contest, participated by a total of 25 girls belonging to different communities, was held as part of 17th edition of the state-level Orange Festival that aims to promote and preserve Tamenglong orange, popularly known as ‘Tamenglong Komla’.
Loukrakpam Hillary Chanu and Juanreiliu Gonmei were crowned first and second runners-up.
Sushanti of R Thangmeiband went home richer with a cheque of INR 1.5 lakh while the first runner-up and second-runner up were awarded cheques of INR 1 lakh and INR 75,000 respectively.
Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei of Hill Areas Committee, Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei and Deputy Commissioners of Tamenglong and Noney districts were also present during the crowning ceremony of the beauty pageant.
Besides the first three title holders, seven other competitors who won different sub-titles were awarded cheques of INR 20,000 each.
Karan Thokchom from Imphal won the best designer award.
Orange Queen 2022 contest has become the main event of the state level Orange Festival in Manipur wherein the contestants compete in traditional, casual and formal rounds with questions and answer rounds.
The contestants were scrutinised by a panel of judges working in diverse fields.
It may be mentioned that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with his council of ministers Awangbow Newmai (Water Resources), Dr. S Ranjan (Health and Family welfare), L Susindro Meitei (Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution), Khashim Vashum (Transport) MLAs, officials and leaders of various civil society organisations were present during this year’s closing ceremony of the three-day state level festival which was marked by a series of cultural dances and musical sessions.

Miss Congeniality: Lujianliu R Panei (Tamenglong)
Miss talented: Esther Ngulie (Nagaland) and
Miss Breakthrough: Rocy Niangbiakmawi (Churachandpur)
