IMPHAL, JUN 8
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]round 60 activists of Joint Students Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) stormed the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) office in Imphal on Saturday protesting against the process to hold the Main Examination of the Manipur Civil Service by the MPSC.
The JSCC also demanded for the nullification of the results of the MPSC preliminary examination of 2014 alleging various anomalies by the MPSC officials during the examination. There were several errors in question papers and the marking pattern of the 2014 Preliminary Examination conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). Issuing of forms for the Main Examination has begun since May 21.At around 1 pm today, the volunteers of JSCC stormed the MPSC office at North AOC in Imphal. They pelted stones at the office and attempted to dismantle the gate of the office. The student volunteers then locked the office before they left.
Manipur police guarding the MPSC office were stunt and numbed when the large number of JSCC volunteers suddenly rushed into the office campus this afternoon. The police failed to control the charging JSCC volunteers. The additional force of police was called in. The Imphal police station officer-in charge along with his team attended the volatile situation. Few minutes later, things came to a halt.
It may be noted here that All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM-Tombing) and Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) had threatened to resort to series of agitation if the ongoing process to conduct the Main Examination to the Manipur Civil Service is not halted immediately.
ATSUM and JSCC had demanded to cancel the Preliminary Examination Results of 2014 and start a fresh examination.
Both JSCC and ATSUM had expressed their resentment on the farcical situation created by the negligence committed by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) regarding the 2014 Preliminary examination results. They had also demanded that if the MPSC is not capable of conducting such examination, it should be handed over to the UPSC.
Earlier, the JSCC had apprised the Governor of Manipur while the All Manipur Muslim Girl’s Student Union, United Minority and Student’s Federation of North East Education and Social Upliftment Department had asked for the re-evaluation the examination papers or else threatened to resort to stern form of agitation.
It may be recalled here that ATSUM-Tombing had asked the Manipur chief minister to cancel the results altogether and call for fresh recruitment. In its representation to the chief minister of Manipur ATSUM said, “The people’s trust and faith is gaining tremendously on the MPSC for fairness in selection of candidates on merit basis during the recently declared MPSC-CSE examinations, it is indeed disappointing that there has been a hue and cry from candidates in the recently declared MPSC CSE prelims 2014 on the question of 15-16 irrelevant questions which do not correspond to the answer keys”.
ATSUM then asked that it is beyond one’s imaginations as to why such a blunder mistakes are committed by the questions setters of a prestigious autonomous body like MPSC. In case of inadvertent mistake in one or two question is an exceptional case but errors in 15 answer keys is a mockery quite fit to be laughed at in such an era of sophisticated computer era, ATSUM added.
“It is pertinent to note the modus operandi of the MPSC in giving ample room to suspect favouritism, nepotism and culture of corruption in the selection process. Either the UPSC or MPSC has never created such a history of declaring the examination results in phase wise as is the case with the MPSC of the present leaving a specious room of the foul play,” ATSUM representation to the chief minister stated.
According to ATSUM, 70% of questions being copy pasted from the UPSC exam from 2000-2013, subject experts must have encouraged their respective candidates to copy the spelling of KETTLE. It is a disgrace and dishonour in the realm of a competitive world, the tribal student body felt.
To maintain the standard of the MPSC to the bench marks and avoid legal complication, your esteemed Government is fervently beseeched to cancel the aforesaid examination and call for fresh examination to do justice to both successful and un successful candidates, the tribal student body added.
