Beat reporters and writers awarded at annual awards
IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 15: Seven Manipur journalists including an editor of an evening vernacular will be awarded the 8th Manipur State Journalist Awards, for 2016 in various categories in Imphal on Wednesday.
The winning journalists are Ranjit Oinamcha, editor of Paojel,an evening vernacular (Best Editor for National Integration and Communal Harmony) Staffs reporters Nomita Khongbantabam (reporting on art and culture) Babycha (reporting on science and technology), special correspondent Naorem Gyanand (reporting on women and child), all from vernacular daily Hueiyen Lanpao; sub-editor Kshetri Meghajit (parliamentary reporting) of vernacular Naharolgi Thoudang, staff reporters Ibomcha Yumnam (rural reporting) and Brahmacharimayum Devchandra Sharma (reporting on health and hygiene) both from vernacular daily Poknapham.
In November 2008, the first Manipur State Journalist Awards were given to only five journalists including an editor for their prolific editorials and reports on national integration and communal harmony, rural, health and women and child.
This time, the awardees will be given cash prize, a shawl and a memento each, during the National Press Day observation at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles in Imphal. The governor of Manipur Dr Najma A. Heptulla, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Commissioner K Radhakumar Singh of the Information and Public Relations (IPR) of Manipur will be attending the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour, in that order, for the occasion.
Also, a daylong workshop about reporting from conflict areas will be organized under the aegis of the directorate of the IPR.
The president of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) W Shamjai, and the editor-in-chief of Impact TV Yumnam Rupachandra, a popular cable TV network, will present papers. Former president of the AMWJU, Akoijam Sanaton will be the moderator.
