IMPHAL, September 15: The resignation of five legislators including four Naga People’s Front (NPF) was accepted by the Speaker of the Manipur state legislative assembly.
The five legislators are Alexander Pao of Karong constituency and Dikho of Mao constituency both in Senapati district, Nungung Victor of Chandel constituency under Chandel district, Samuel Risom of Ukhrul constituency in Ukhrul district and Yumkham Erabot of Wangkhei constituency in Imphal East district. The first four legislators belonged to NPF while the latter belongs to Indian National congress.
The Secretary in charge of the Manipur assembly K Meghajit Singh issued the necessary notification and respective bulletins in this regard on September 14. However, the official notifications were made available to the media on Thursday. It may be mentioned that the four NPF MLAs had already announced their resignation from the assembly last year.
But there was no report of their accepting their resignation from the assembly secretariat. Similarly in case of MLA Erabot, who resigned on September 12, there was no such official notification except the one which was issued on Thursday.
Consequent upon the speaker accepting their resignation, five seats in the house of 60 members are lying vacant.
Explosives recovered: Troops of 31 Assam Rifles, basing on specific intelligence regarding transportation of explosives, apprehended three over Ground Workers of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on September 11 from Nampisha in Manipur’s Ukhrul District.
“They were carrying explosives to Imphal in a Mahindra Jeep (MNS-5862), a press release said. A thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 8.76 Kgs, two detonators and other incriminating articles,” says PRO Assam Rifles (South) in the release.
One of the apprehendees is related to a PLA cadre operating from village Onzia in Myanmar and has been actively providing assistance to PLA for carrying out violent incidents against security forces, it claimed.
The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to the Litan Police Station.
