In a move to enhance the abilities of the linesmen and meter readers of the state power department, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) & Power Sector Skill Council(PSSC) under Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship was signed at the State Chief Minister’s secretariat in Imphal on Tuesday.

CEO Vinod Behari of PSSC,Director Deloitte Consultancy Ajit Mathai,Director & CEO of JCRE Solutions Niranjan and Managing Director N Sarat of MSPDCL attended the MoU singing function.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Ibobi said MSPDCL after the unbundling from Electricity Department, Manipur has been trying its best to improve the quality of electrical supply to the people of Manipur.
In order to further improve the supply of the power to the common people, the maintenance of the existing infrastructure and provide uninterrupted power supply is the key. MSPDCL is now initiating a programme to train and skill up the existing linemen staffs and future outsourced linemen staffs.
They will be certified and assess by PSSC, he added.
“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of Department of Labour& Employment, Government of Manipur, which has played an important role under the leadership of
I Hemochandra Singh, Minister PHED and Labour & Employment, by agreeing to provide infrastructural support namely, ITI, Takyel, for the purpose of skill training,” he said.
According to MSPDCL sources, a total of 84 linesmen and metre readers were selected from its 15 divisions besides five other engineers to provide for the upcoming training programme.The MoU which was signed today could be one of the first understanding signed with a government agency to train their linesmen in the country.
