IMPHAL — Due to severe weather conditions causing floods and landslides in multiple districts, the Manipur government has announced the closure of all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, on September 17.
“In view of the prevailing weather conditions in the state resulting in incidences of flood and landslides across various districts, all schools in the state including schools under the state government and central government, private schools, government aided schools and government un-aided schools shall remain closed on Wednesday, the 17th September 2025,” stated an order issued by Director of Education (Schools) on Tuesday.
Similarly, the Director of University and Higher Education, in its order on Tuesday, stated, “It is hereby notified for information of all concerned that due to incessant rain in the past few days and subsequent flooding in different parts of the state, all colleges in valley districts viz., Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal shall remain closed on 17th September, 2025.”

It may be mentioned that all schools, colleges and universities in the state remained closed on Tuesday following government orders in view of the prevailing flood and landslide situations in the state.
Following severe flooding in Manipur, caused by the breaching of the Iril riverbank and overflowing of the Imphal, Thoubal, and Nongdambi rivers, the state government closed educational institutions as a precautionary measure to ensure safety. The flooding has significantly impacted several valley districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal, affecting villages and agricultural lands.
On Tuesday, Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner Hannah Kahmei led and official team and inspected the flood affected areas and distributed relief materials.
Meanwhile, search operation is on to find whereabouts of a 70-year-old man after he fell into the overflowing Iril river on Monday afternoon.
According to an IMD forecast, no heavy rainfall is expected in the next two days.
Patients evacuated from JNIMS
With most parts of Imphal East district reeling under flood, the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has announced to evacuate all the patients admitted in different wards of JNIMS with immediate effect.
“No new admission shall be done till further notice. This is being taken up in the larger interest of the patient and their safety with approval of the higher authority,” stated a circular issued by the hospital on Tuesday.
