Manipur senior journalist passes away

Imphal, June 28 (EMN) Joseph Joute, a senior journalist from Churachandpur district of Manipur passes away in a hospital in Imphal on Friday afternoon.

Joute was admitted to hospital for treatment few days back following an illness, family sources said.

He is survived by wife and three children, one son and two daughters. He was 50.

Joute had served as co-editor of Hmasawnna Thar, a Hmar vernacular published from Churachandpur district headquarters. Besides being a former contributor of Delhi based North East SUN magazine and correspondent of Press Trust of India and Imphal based The Sangai Express from Churachandpur, he also worked as a joint editor of the then Shan, a popular Hmar vernacular in Churachandpur which is now defunct before editing and publishing his own Hmar daily the then The Churachandpur Times (2002-06).

A social entrepreneur Joute was also the former president of Bible Hill Youth Club.

During his social activities, Joseph takes up many ways to reduce extreme poverty, injustice, gender disparity through his ventures M/s Tribal Enterprise and the Bible Hill Youth Club.

Manipur Hill Journalists Union, District Information Officer of DIPR Churachandpur and many others have conveyed condolence messages.

A condolence service will be held at his residence located at Rengkai locality in Churachandpur town today.
