Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and explosives in Manipur's Churachandpur, while police seized 49 kg of suspected opium in Senapati district during separate operations.

IMPHAL — A combined team of security forces recovered a huge cache of arms, explosives and warlike stores, including four rifles, from Manipur's Churachandpur district during a search operation on Tuesday.
In a separate operation, Manipur Police seized 49 kg of suspected opium from an abandoned vehicle in Senapati district.
Sharing photographs of the recovered weapons on X, Manipur Police said a joint team of Manipur Police and the 19 Garhwal Rifles recovered the arms, explosives and warlike stores from the forest area of K. Thenjang village in Churachandpur district during an operation conducted on Tuesday.
In another case, police said 49 kg of suspected opium, packed in 49 packets, was recovered from an abandoned vehicle near Hengbung Baptist Church along National Highway-2 in Senapati district on July 12.
According to police, the vehicle was abandoned after it sped away from the Tumuyon Khullen checkpoint under Senapati district.
"Documents belonging to one Z. Reithingam (52) of Kamphasom, Ukhrul district, were also recovered from the vehicle. Further investigation is underway," police said.
Meanwhile, security forces continued search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across the state.
In a separate statement issued on Monday night, police said the movement of 300 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 was successfully ensured under strict security arrangements.
Security measures have been strengthened at all vulnerable locations, while security convoys are being provided along sensitive stretches of the highway to facilitate the safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles, the statement added.
