Manipur reports 442 new Covid positive cases on Saturday

Official sources said Manipur recorded 442 new Covid 19 positive cases on Saturday, bringing the state’s infection count to 34,775 and the number of active cases to 3851.

An update from Dr. Kh Sasheekumar, spokesperson for the Manipur Health department stated that new positive cases were recorded from 13 districts across the state with the highest number of positive cases reported from Imphal West (168) and Imphal East (140).

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 12 people including seven women died in five hospitals across the state including Ukhrul and Kangpokpi. As a result, the overall number of deaths in the state increased by 461 on Saturday. Despite the fact that 30,463 people have recovered so far (including 85 today) the recovery rate has dropped to 87.60 percent, according to reports.

As of Saturday, 6, 71,147 people were screened at the state’s entry points, and 6, 34,101 people were tested for Covid 19 at the state’s various testing centres.

In Manipur, the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine was administered to 2, 58,740 people, including healthcare professionals and frontline workers. 75,014 healthcare and frontline staff on the other hand got a second dose of vaccines.

Vaccination for media personnel

In Manipur, the Covid 19 vaccination programme for media personnel will begin in the second week of May, following a meeting with the state mission director of the National Health Mission (NHM) of Manipur and the CMOs of the Imphal West and Imphal East districts.

On Saturday, a joint meeting chaired by the director of Information and Public Relations (IPR), government of Manipur took a decision in this regard.

The decision was made after Chief Minister N Biren Singh declared accredited journalists in the state to be frontline warriors and announced that the state would vaccinate all journalists on a first-come first-served basis. It mentioned that the director IPR would notify local media of the date, time and location for the start of the Covid 19 vaccination programme in phases.

The meeting also decided to vaccinate all government media personnel including those who work in DIPR Manipur’s news section/units, DDK Imphal, and AIR Imphal among others. In Hill districts, media personnel will be vaccinated at specified locations in their districts, which will be announced in the local media by the director IPR.

The meeting also agreed to encourage media persons, who had already received the first dose of Covid 19 vaccine as part of the programme to receive the second dose. State mission director (NHM), Dr. N Shamjai, president EGM, Khogendra Khomdram, acting president AMWJU, S Bokuljaoba, secretary general EGM, Y Rupachandra and others attended the day’s meeting.
