Imphal, Sep. 24 (EMN): Manipur has received four Panchayat Awards 2019 including one Zilla Parishad and three Gram Panchayats for appraisal year 2017-18, for their outstanding performance under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.
The Ministry has announced the state-wise annual awards for best Zilla Parishad, Gram Panchayats and Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat awards.
For Manipur state, Imphal East Zilla Parishad bagged the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) 2019.
In the Gram Panchayat category, Phayeng Gram Panchayat under Haorangsabal Block of Imphal west district recieved the award in the general category and Waiton Gram Panchayat under Sawombung block of Imphal east district won the same in the thematic category.
It may be mentioned that DDUPSP 2019 are given to best performing Panchayats (District, Intermediate and Gram Panchayat) across the states and union territories in recognition of the good work done by the Panchayati Raj institutions at each level for improving delivery of services and public goods.
This year the nominations for DDUPSP were received for general and thematic categories. One-third of the total DDUPSP awards are proposed in the categories of thematic awards.
Nine thematic categories are sanitation, civic services (drinking water, street light, infrastructure), natural resource management, marginalized section (women, scheduled caste/ scheduled tribe, disabled, senior citizen), social sector performance, disaster management, community based organisations /individuals taking voluntary actions to support gram panchayats, innovation in revenue generation and e-governance.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India has selected Waiton Gram Panchayat of Imphal east district for Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Purashkar 2019 for outstanding performance.
In the category of Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat Award, 2019 for appraisal year 2017, Thongju Part-II Gram Panchayat under Kshetrigao block of Imphal east district has bagged the award for outstanding performance.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has introduced this award under Incentivisation scheme with a view to encourage the best performing gram panchayats for adopting child -friendly practices.
There are around 2.56 lakh panchayats including 2,48,683 gram panchayats, 6,307 intermediate panchayats and 601 district panchayats across the country.
The awards will be distributed next month in New Delhi.
