Imphal, Nov. 24 (EMN): USA polo team thrashed the Indian Navy 13-6 in the first match while UK trounced India A 9-4 in the second match on the third day of the 14th edition of Manipur Polo International tournament, organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association at Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal on Thursday.
Even though the Indian Navy team lost the match, it put up a much better show than their first match where they lost 16-0 to the UK.
The match started on equal footing in the 1st chukkar with both USA and India Navy scoring two goals. Will Boland and JP Varquez scored for the USA, while Altaf Khan scored for the Indian Navy.
In the 2nd Chukkar, USA pumped in three more goals through Jorge Varquez (2) and JP Varquez (1) while Captain AP Singh and Commander AK Panchal scored for the Indian Navy. The chukkar ended 5-4 in favour of the USA.
In the third chukker, Nik Feldman and Will Boland scored two goals each while Captain AP Singh scored twice for the Indian Navy. The chukkar ended 9-6 in favour of the USA.
In the 4th chukkar, Indian Navy failed to score a single goal while the USA scored four more goals through Will Boland. USA won the match resoundingly with a score of 13-6.
The match umpires were Harry Tucker of the UK and T Pradeepkumar of India B.
In the second match of the day, the UK team scored three goals in the 1st chukkar through Jack Tucker, Harry Tucker and Pil Seller. The Indian Navy failed to open its account in this chukkar.
In the 2nd chukkar, Harry Tucker scored twice for UK while for India A Major Aman and Ranshay Purohit scored. The chukkar ended 5-2 in favour of the UK. The India A team drew a blank in the 3rd chukkar as the UK team added two more goals through George Amor and Phil Seller to raise the lead to 7-2 for UK.
The 4th chukkar was fought on equal terms with each team adding two goals. Phil Seller and Harry Tucker scored for the UK while Syed Hurr Ali scored twice for India A. The final tally was 9-2 in favour of the UK.
