IMPHAL, August 4: Manipur police have started to launch search operations and regular frisking and checking in and around Imphal town particularly in the market areas as part of security measures ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
A day after state police along with commandos’ personnel conducted combing operations in Langthabal locality near Manipur University site, city police and commandos’ team conducted similar combing operations in and around Kalibari area on Friday.
Around seven individuals who could not produced their personnel documents were picked up for verification. Earlier the combing operations were also conducted at Masjid road area in Imphal.
On August 2, two teams of Bishnupur district police commandoes arrested a cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party identified as Th Basanta Singh (38) son of Late Shyamjai of Heirok part I presently staying at Wangkhei Hijam Leirak in Imphal was arrested during frisking at Bishnupur bazaar, according to a press release.
Another active member of the banned United National Liberation Front identified as K Joykumar alias Athingba (26) son of Ibopishak of Ithai dam makhong was also arrested by a combined team of Bishnupur police commandoes and 34 Assam Rifles personnel during a search operation at Torbung area under Moirang police station on August 3,the release added.
