
IMPHAL: Imphal West district police confiscated nearly 187 motorcycle silencers for causing noise pollution during a special drive in different places under its jurisdiction including the greater Imphal area.
SP Dr. S Ibomcha of Imphal West District, said the special drive to seize these motorcycle silencers was taken up as many modified vehicles cause nuisance on the roads by producing a deafening sound. The seized modified motorcycle silencers will be destroyed this month after the confirmation of the modality of destruction.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The police teams under 10 police stations under Imphal West District conducted the special drive to seize the modified (loud) silencers which produced sound higher than the permissible decibel range from motorcycles from March onwards.
The police station which seized the maximum number of modified motorcycle silencers was felicitated with appreciation letters along with a token of encouragement.
As a result,the Officer in Charge H Sanjoy Singh of Lamshang Police Station for seizing maximum numbers of modified motorcycle silencers(40) and Assistant Sub-Inspector L Sharat of Commando Imphal West District for seizing 21 modified motorcycle silencers.
On the reports of people using tinted glasses with less visibility inside four-wheelers to engage in criminal offences such as abduction, drug transportation etc, the police teams also removed 354 numbers of tinted films from different vehicles in the last few days.
Stating that no vehicles are allowed to have tinted windows whose visibility is less than 50 per cent as per the ruling of the Supreme Court, SP appealed to the people to stop using loud motorcycle silencers and unauthorised tinted glasses in their vehicles.
He cautioned that the police will start taking legal actions and impose fines against the defaulters.
