IMPHAL — Manipur Police have arrested four persons, including the husband and mother-in-law, in connection with the suspicious death of Khaidem (Ongbi) Chaoba Devi, a 27-year-old housewife, at Thiyam Leishangkhong under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district on December 27.
The arrested husband of the deceased has been identified as Khaidem Nareshwor (29) and his mother, Khaidem (Ongbi) Indira (47), both residents of Wangoi Mamang Khaidem Leikai.
Apart from them, two other persons identified as Moirangthem Dhanajit Singh (28) of Langathel Laikhom Bazar, at present residing at Nongpok Keithelmanbi Awang Leikai, and Sh Kananbala Devi, alias Dhaneshwori (41), of Yairipok Wangkhem were arrested.
They were produced before the concerned magistrate and reportedly remanded to police custody till January 5.
The dead body of Chaoba Devi was found at the Thiyam Leishangkhong area under suspicious circumstances on the morning of December 27 after she was reported missing on the night of December 26.
Meanwhile, the local community of Iramsiphai, the birthplace of the deceased, staged a sit-in protest on December 28, demanding the arrest of all people involved in the alleged killing. A similar protest demonstration was also held at Wangoi Khaidem Leikai.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the case stated that they will not claim the dead body, which is currently lying at the RIMS mortuary, until necessary actions are taken.
