An Assam man was arrested with 80 grams of suspected brown sugar in Manipur's Senapati district, while police recovered arms, ammunition and explosives in separate operations across Thoubal and Tengnoupal districts.
IMPHAL — A man from Assam was arrested with 80 grams of suspected brown sugar at a check post in Manipur's Senapati district on Sunday, police said.
The arrested person was identified as Arun Dutta (50), a resident of Dibrugarh, Assam. He was apprehended at the T Khullen Naka check post under Senapati Police Station.
Police said a Swift Dzire car (registration number AS 06 K 1306) and eight soap cases containing 80 grams of suspected brown sugar were seized from his possession.
In a separate operation on Sunday, Manipur Police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from Ekok Pat near the Arong riverbank under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district.

The recovered items included two INSAS rifles, one MP5 submachine gun, one SLR rifle, two .303 rifles, eight magazines, one smoke bomb, and 379 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres, police said.
Earlier on Saturday, security forces recovered one 9 mm pistol, one double-barrel gun, six radio sets, two hand grenades, and six improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were destroyed in situ, from a forested area between Border Pillars 72 and 73 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, the statement added.
