Manipur Police arrest four for extorting contractual nurses of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

IMPHAL — Four persons were arrested by Manipur Police on charges of extorting money from contractual staff nurses of the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), along with cash amounting to INR 39 lakh.
According to police sources, the arrests were made on March 13 following an investigation into an FIR registered at Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district regarding illegal money collection from nurses working on contract at JNIMS.
The arrested persons have been identified as Khoisnam Roger (29) of Malom Tuliyaima Mamang Leikai, Khoisnam Byron (23) of Malom Tuliyaima Mamang Leikai, Sinam Umakanta Singh (43) of Changangei Makha Leikai and RK Heramot Singh (45) of Lamboi Khongnangkhong Mayai Leikai, all in Imphal West district.
Manipur Police stated in a statement that a sum of INR 39,00,000, six mobile phones, and one pistol were recovered from the possession of the accused.
The police also said that the arrested persons had committed the crime at the behest of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibangnganba), collecting money from the contract staff of the JNIMS and transferring it to the underground outfit.
In another development, security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from Old Nabil, located east of Thangjing Top under Henglep Police Station in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
The recovered items include a country made (about 7 feet long) rocket with approximately 60 kg explosives, a country made single barrel, seven 7.62 mm empty cases, four magazines, one mortar bomb and one improvised mortar device locally called ‘pumpi’, according to police sources.
In a separate incident, security forces arrested three persons along with arms and narcotic drugs from Lilong Bazar area on National Highway-102 under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district on Saturday.
The arrested persons are Md Abdul Gafar alias Thoi (22) of Kiyamgei Takhok Makha, Md Boicha (23) of Lilong Leihaokhong and Akip alias Aki (23) Manan of Kiyamgei Takhok Makha.
From their possession, one 9 mm pistol along with a magazine, seven 9 mm live rounds, 494 grams of Heroin brown sugar, four mobile phones and a four-wheeler, Hyundai Creta were recovered, police added.
