IMPHAL, AUGUST 31: The six state players who represents Indian Olympic team in recently concluded Rio Olympics were felicitated by awarding a cash incentive of Rs 25 lakhs each on Wednesday.
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Law minister I Hemochandra who is also the president of Manipur Olympic Association and senior sports officials and former olympian Ksh Thoiba attended the day's felicitation function at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal.
The six players included Indian women hockey team captain P Sushila and T Anuradha and men’s hockey team players Th Kothajit and Chinglensana besides L Bombayla (Archery) and S Mirabai (Weightlifting).
Manipur Chief Minister speaking on the occasion said that the state is proud of having six Olympians, and appealed to everyone to extend help and support while encouraging the talented sports persons at their level apart from the help and cooperation extended by the state government.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and others also spoke on the occasion which was also attended by the Rajya Sabha MP MC Mary Kom and PHED Minister Manga Vaiphei.
On Tuesday, Manipur hockey organised a felicitation programme for four hockey players who were accorded hero’s welcome on their arrival at Imphal International airport on August 19, at Olympian Thoiba's residence in Imphal.
