Manipur officials visited Nagaland on September 18-19 to study the State’s implementation of Universal Health Coverage, including CMHIS, service delivery, technology and health financing.
DIMAPUR — Officials from the Government of Manipur undertook a two-day study visit to Nagaland on September 18 and the 19th to gain insights into the state’s implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with a focus on the institutional framework, service delivery, technology, financing and sustainability measures under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS).
According to a DIPR report, UHC aims to ensure access to quality essential health services for all without causing financial hardship.
India has reaffirmed its commitment to UHC through the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978, the Declaration of Astana of 2018 and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.8, which calls for achieving UHC by 2030.
The Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW), through the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), implements the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and CMHIS.
Since 2022, CMHIS has extended health coverage to all bona fide citizens of Nagaland who are not covered under AB PM-JAY, strengthening financial protection and supporting the State’s efforts towards UHC.
The study visit provided an opportunity for officials from the two states to exchange experiences and share best practices. It also reaffirmed their commitment to continued knowledge-sharing and inter-state collaboration to strengthen public health insurance and UHC initiatives.
