Braving the scorching heat, public leaders and civil societies turned up to pay tribute to the martyrs at the Kekrupat Memorial Complex in Imphal. Many leaders, representatives of apex bodies, who spoke during the public meeting held at the Kekrupat ground, dwelt at length on the unity and integrity of the state. To mark the occasion, many people donated their blood. In 2001, people of Manipur took to the streets in the state capital after the then Union government introduce the clause ‘without territorial limits’ in the ceasefire agreement with NSCN (IM). The angry agitators had burned down the offices of political party, the State Assembly building, official quarters during the protest. In view of the day’s observation, the busy main markets in Imphal including the crowded Khwairamband Keithel, educational institutions and other establishments remained closed and transportation were suspended in commemoration of the day.
