Constitution Day was observed across Manipur with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla calling on citizens, especially youth, to uphold democratic and constitutional values.

IMPHAL — Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, was observed across Manipur on Wednesday under the theme “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman” to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India on November 26, 1949.
The state-level programme was held at the auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal, attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, along with MLAs, senior officials, teachers and students.
As part of the ceremony, Governor Bhalla led the gathering in reading the Preamble, reaffirming the core constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
In his address, the Governor reflected on the framing of the Constitution and the leadership of the Members of the Constituent Assembly. He highlighted the contributions of Dr. BR Ambedkar and other eminent members whose scholarship and commitment shaped what he described as one of the world’s most resilient constitutional frameworks.

Bhalla spoke on the importance of constitutional morality and adherence to the rule of law, adding that every citizen—particularly the youth—has a responsibility to uphold democratic values. He said the resilience of the people of Manipur and their faith in democratic processes continue to reflect the spirit of the Constitution.
He also noted that Manipur demonstrates how constitutional ideals can guide a progressive future, citing youth-led initiatives in education, sports, arts and entrepreneurship. He urged citizens to embrace their constitutional duties, promote unity, reject violence and protect the dignity and rights of all communities.
Constitution Day was also observed at district headquarters by the respective district administrations, along with line departments. The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, also marked the day at its office premises, led by centre head Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi and attended by scientists, technical staff and other personnel.
