Imphal, Jan. 3 (EMN): The forest and environment minister of Manipur has assured action against people who hunt trap migratory birds. Manipur’s Minister for Forest and Environment Thounaojam Shyamkumar said during an event in Imphal that his department was keeping ‘strict vigil to safeguard the Loktak Lake’ including its wildlife. He said that the department will take stern action against those found hunting and trapping migratory birds.
Shyamkumar was addressing media persons at his office chamber at the New Secretariat during a ceremony marking the release of a 2018 calendar of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA).
The calendar depicts developmental projects that were undertaken during the previous year. The minister said that his department’s officials were committed to working for development and ‘saving the largest freshwater lake of the Northeast India.’ He has appealed to the people living near the periphery of the Loktak Lake to encourage and support the staffs of the department.
