Manipur judo athletes engage in a training session at the MJA Hall in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.

  • IMPHAL — The Manipur Judo contingent, consisting of 20 players, including 13 women, and five officials, has been working out modalities for a successful performance at MJA Hall in Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal, since January 16 in preparation for the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, which will have its opening on January 28.

  • The judo event will kick off from February 9 to 13 in Dehradun.

  • The Manipur team manager, Kh Gojendro, stated that the intensive coaching camp for state judokas began on January 16 at the Manipur Judo Association training hall at Khuman Lampak. However, he noted that one of the major challenges is that some of the selected players are based or employed outside the state, which prevents collective or group practices.

  • He added that some of the players from services, SSB, and CRPF are gradually joining the camp. The key point is that the judokas are not sitting idle but are continuing their practice sessions at institutions such as the Inspire Institute of Sports in Bengaluru.

  • He further mentioned that although a higher number of players had been expected to qualify, the current group of 20 has the potential to achieve great results if conditions are favourable. He highlighted that many of the players have represented India and possess a strong understanding of winning techniques, expressing an anticipation of at least 12 gold medals from the National Games.

  • The players are currently receiving diets provided by the Manipur Judo Association, as no financial support has been received from the government. He stated that the intensive training camp will continue until February 6, adding that all the players are in excellent shape and eager to perform under the watchful eyes of the coaching staff, including those from SAI.

  • The state's selected judokas in the men's category are H Bikramjit Singh in the +100 kg, A Kirankumar Singh in the 60 kg, L Jagadish Meitei in the 66 kg, K Bishal Singh in the 73 kg, L Shilakshi in the 73 kg, Th Ningthemba Meitei in the 81 kg, and N Sheetal in the 90 kg.

  • The women judokas are L Roshni in the +78 kg, M Kabita Devi in the 48 kg, L Monalish in the 48 kg, L Sanatombi Devi in the 48 kg, N Sarah Devi in the 52 kg, L Nganthoi Chanu in the 52 kg, H Matouleibi Devi in the 52 kg, A Anita Chanu in the 57 kg, I Kalpana Devi in the 63 kg, Renubala Devi in the 63 kg, L Bembem Devi in the 63 kg, Nirmala Devi in the 70 kg, and M.
