Imphal, Oct. 27 (EMN): A two-day Faith Based Leaders meet on “Climate policy” which concluded here at Mantripukhuri on Oct. 26, urged the leaders of inter-denominations present to take up capacity building programmes on climate strategies apart from addressing livelihood issues.
The workshop held under the aegis of the State Climate Change Cell, Environment department in association with the Manipur forum for Sustainable Mountain Development also suggested introducing new policies to address the grievances of the villagers. The members were also urged to disseminate information about climate change by using different mediums of media and technologies.
The workshop aimed to deliberate on the existing policies on climate change and environment in one platform to integrate the strategies into state action plan on climate change version II.
Highlighting the issues of water scarcity, drought, flood, landslide in their localities, the church functionaries were requested to extend support to the disaster affected areas. They were also asked to find ways for water security.
Dr. T Brajakumar from Environment department presented the climate scenario in Manipur while Dr. Homen Thangjam talked on action plan on climate change action.
