IMPHAL — The
duodecennial celebration of Manipur High Court was held at its Chingmeirong
premises near Imphal on Sunday.
Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along senior judges
including Justice BR Gavai of Supreme Court of India-cum-executive chairman of
National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and four judges attended the
celebration.
The judges of the Supreme Court namely Justice Vikram Nath,
Justice MM Sundresh, Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice N Kotiswar Singh also
attended the celebrations.
The union minister of state (independent charge) in the
Ministry of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal; chief justice of High Court of
Manipur, Justice D Krishnakumar’ and other judges of High Court of Manipurnamely Justice A Bimol Singh, Justice A
Guneshwar Sharma and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, advocate general, representatives
of Bar Council, chief secretary, security advisor and DGP also attended the
celebration.
Speaking on occasion, Manipur Governor said that Manipur has
a rich judicial legacy starting from the ancient times of the courts of Kutchu
and Pacha. He stated that with the passage of time, the judicial administration
in the state transcended through various establishments.
He mentioned that in the pre-independence era, the Manipur
state durbar used to hold both original and appellate jurisdiction over civil
and criminal matters.
“We believe that this day holds profound significance as it
marks not just the passing of another year but a celebration of the continuing
journey of justice, fairness, and equality for all citizens of our state,” Ajay
Kumar Bhalla said.
Congratulating the chief justice and the judges of High
Court of Manipur, the governor stated that all have worked tirelessly with
dedication to ensure that the rule of law prevails in the state.
Appreciating the presence of judges from the Supreme Court
of India as well as law and justice official, the governor stated that it
reflected the attention and the care that the entire nation has towards the
state.
The governor expressed confidence that the High Court of
Manipur would continue serving the people by ensuring a speedy justice delivery
and the efforts of the court would inspire the younger generations in the days
to come.
Judges of the Supreme Court and Union Minister of State for
Law and Justice inaugurated several key projects and also laid the foundation
of various new projects during the event.
Governor also witnessed a spectacular cultural performance
shown by the artistes of JNMDA.
In the day’s celebration, the governor laid the foundation
stone for construction of district and sessions court building in Churachandpur
and also announced the creation of new posts within the chief justice
secretariat.
On Saturday, delegation of Supreme Court of India comprising
of Justice BR Gavai, Justice Vikram Nath; Justice MM Sundresh’ Justice KV
Viswanathan’ and Justice N Kotiswar Singh visited relief camp in Manipur’s
Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and interacted with the inmates of the
camp.
