IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 11: Normal life in the Manipur’s capital, Imphal, remains affected since Wednesday following the recent demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination currency notes on Tuesday night.
People continue to stand six-seven hours in long queues in front of almost all the nationalized banks since the wee hours of the day to exchange their Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes or depositing them as most of the traders and shopkeepers refuse to said denominations.
ATMs of the State Bank of India (SBI) are likely to start operations from November 12 afternoon besides other normal business, sources said.
Bank officials also collected the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from their ATMs, numbering around 120 under the SBI’s main branch to replenish them with other notes, sources said.
Banks are expecting new Rs 2000 notes worth more than Rs 80 crore from the RBI on Friday.
