Some of the gymnasts who will represent Manipur state at the
38th National Games.
IMPHAL — A 13-member gymnastics team along with other
officials will represent Manipur state at the 38th National Games to be held in
Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14.
Technical official Yumnam Ranjan informed that the team has
started intensive coaching sessions so that the gymnasts can perform better at
the upcoming national games.
“Only four gymnasts qualified in the last National Games
wherein we secured two gold medals in aerobic gymnastics. But this time, eight
gymnasts qualified and we’re expecting better results with the blessings of the
almighty,” Ranjan said.
Apart from Ranjan, Waikhom Inaocha Singh has been selected
as the team manager, while Ch Prithibilal Singh (WAG) and N Ranjita (Aerobic)
have been named as team coaches.
Ranjan further informed that the state’s qualified gymnasts
will compete in five gymnastics events - men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG),
women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG), individual, mixed pairs and gymnastics trio.
According to the All Manipur Gymnastics Association, the
qualified men gymnasts are S Ruban Meitei, Okram Umajit Singh and Mutum Romesh
Singh, while the women gymnasts are Oinam Bandana Devi, Ariha Pangambam, Huirem
Jesika Devi, Leishilembi Chabungbam, Anjori Pangambam, Maliyani Konsam and RK Thoithoilembi
Chanu.
Manipur won 5 gold and 2 bronze medals in the recently
concluded All Age Group Aerobic Gymnastics National Championships held in Jammu
and Kashmir.
